Brain & Spine Trauma

Trauma to the brain or spine is a medical emergency — one that demands immediate, expert neurosurgical involvement to protect neurological function, prevent life threatening complications, and give patients the best possible chance at recovery.

At Advanced Neurosurgery Associates, we provide specialized neurosurgical evaluation and treatment for both pediatric and adult patients who have sustained traumatic injuries to the brain or spinal cord. Our team serves patients and families across New Jersey from four locations — Rutherford, Jersey City, New Brunswick, and Morristown — and works in close coordination with emergency departments, trauma teams, and rehabilitation specialists throughout the region.

What Is Neurotrauma?

Neurotrauma refers to any traumatic injury involving the brain, spinal cord, or surrounding structures. This includes a wide spectrum of conditions — from concussion and skull fractures to epidural and subdural hematomas, spinal cord injuries, and vertebral fractures. Injuries may result from motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports collisions, workplace incidents, or other high energy mechanisms.

The severity of neurotrauma can range from mild and fully recoverable to severe and permanently disabling. In all cases, prompt evaluation by a qualified neurosurgeon is essential to accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and optimized outcomes.

Trauma Care for Every Patient

Brain and spine trauma affects patients of all ages — and the clinical approach must reflect that. The anatomy, injury patterns, and treatment considerations for a child are fundamentally different from those for an adult, particularly an older adult with pre-existing degenerative conditions. At ANA, our surgeons are experienced across both populations.
